Welcome to group exercise at the Greater Scranton YMCA!

Our group exercise classes range in intensity level, ensuring all community members can participate and benefit. From Power Cycling and HIIT to Silver Sneakers and Easy Does It, class offerings serve individuals of all ages and fitness levels.

LAND EXERCISE CLASSES

Power Cycling: This class is a great cardiovascular workout. Pedal through hill climbs, sprints and many other challenging drills and exercises. All levels are welcome. An indoor cycling class is set to exciting music tracks and choreographed to provide an excellent workout and improve cardiovascular conditioning.

Core: This class consists of exercises and movements to strengthen and train your abdomen, lower back, hips, and pelvis together for better balance and stability.

Easy Does It: A great class that blends balance and light weight exercises for seniors.

HIIT: HIIT will have you giving an all-out, 100% effort through quick intense bursts of exercise followed by short, and sometimes active, recovery periods. HIIT gets, and keeps, your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time.

Kickboxing: Kickboxing is a great class where you will learn proper form for the famous jab, hooks, crosses, uppercuts, back kicks, front kicks and the like. You will engage both your lower and upper body in this group cardio class.

Pilates: This class features low-impact exercises that aim to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility.

Senior Yoga: Senior yoga is a specialized form of yoga perfect for older adults.

Silver Sneakers: Silver Sneakers, catered to older adults, focuses on strengthening muscles and increasing range of movement for daily life activities. Participants can use hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a Silver Sneakers ball. Often, a chair is used for seated exercises or standing support.

Steps & Weights: This class is a mixture of varied upper and lower body toning exercises using the body bar or free weights. Participants will use step equipment (an elevated platform) to step to the rhythm of the music and complete upper body and lower body strength exercises.

Total Body Sculpting: Participants will work all muscle groups using weights and a variety of strength and conditioning exercises.

Weights & Core: This is a great TOTAL BODY weight training class with an emphasis on core.

WATER EXERCISE CLASSES

Shallow Water Exercise: Low-impact, but high energy! Take advantage of the aquatics environment to energize your workout routine. This class incorporates cardio and resistance training for a full-body workout. The class is held in shallow water; participants do not need to be able to swim.

Deep Water Exercise: This class incorporates a balanced workout that includes warm-up, aerobic training and cool down. These classes practice various strength, toning and flexibility stretching.

Aqua Zumba: This class combines the South American Zumba rhythm and dance steps with a pool party. It offers a fun – but challenging – water-based, body-toning workout.

Shallow Water Arthritis: This class allows you to exercise without putting excess strain on your joints and muscles. The gentle activities in warm water, with guidance from an instructor, will help you gain strength and flexibility. This class is excellent for beginning or returning exercisers, as well as for strengthening for pre-surgery and post-surgery.
